The Postal Regulatory Commission has launched a Post Office Suspension Dashboard. It provides a visual overview of currently suspended Post Offices, including their locations, the date of suspension, and the reason for suspension.

As of May 28, 2025, the dashboard included the 428 post offices that were suspended as of February 2025. It does not include locations that were suspended over the past several years but that were subsequently closed permanently or reopened.

The idea for such a dashboard goes back several years.

In February 2022 the Commission opened a Public Inquiry docket to address the issue of post offices that had been under emergency suspension for an extended period of time. I submitted comments suggesting that it would be useful if the Postal Service launched a suspension dashboard so that patrons of the suspended post offices could stay up-to-date about the status of their office. I also created a suspension dashboard on savethepostoffice.com, available here, as a kind of prototype of what the Postal Service could do.

Not much happened after that, but then in April 2023, the Commissioned issued an Information Request asking the Postal Service to describe the extent to which it was “considering creating and maintaining a publicly-available dashboard of suspended post offices.”

The Postal Service responded by saying that it “questions the marginal utility of such a project, especially in light of the costs (some of them recurring) that it would entail.” The Postal Service “does not currently plan to create a public-facing dashboard.” Since then, Postal Service did develop a suspension dashboard for internal use, but it is not available to the public.

Now the Commission has launched its own dashboard. It doesn’t contain as much information as the Save the Post Office prototype or the Postal Service’s own dashboard, but it is helpful nonetheless. Perhaps down the road the PRC will expand the dashboard to include more information about the status of the suspended offices, as well as data on suspended offices that have been permanently discontinued or reopened.
